Corrado Clerici

CORRADO CLERICI lives and works in Forni di Sopra (UD), in the alpine region of Carnia, among Friulian Dolomites of the high Tagliamento Valley. The denticular peaks are the frame of his lodge, that is located in the nature. It’s here that the sculptor finds his inspiration.
After technical studies, his passion guided him to attend artistic drawing courses and to meet a good local master of intaglio.
After the first gypsum works of art, he started working as woodcarver modeler, encouraged by a sculptor from Gardena Valley.
The enchanted place, the charm and color of wood and the love for traditions guided Corrado to sculpt in the field in front of his lodge. His subjects are the “Sbilf”, the sprites of the mountain, main characters of a lot of legends from Carnia.
They are the sprites of the forests, inch of height, lively and vivacious, forever young. They love plays, dance and music. They have unstable nature: they’re not bad but sometimes they’re a little bit spiteful.
They live in the undergrowth and inside the trunks. They’re generally invisible, but they can show themselves to children and to good people. Using their powers, they can give the good luck.
“Sbilf” are representation of that respect, that the forefathers had for nature, which invited them “not to cut a tree without a good reason”.
The sculptor took part to several exhibitions and to among hundred national and international Symposia. He gained prizes and, besides wood, he sculpted also snow, ice and stone.

You can find a permanent exhibition of his works of art in his atelier.
