Roberto Merotto

ROBERTO MEROTTO lives in Falzè di Piave (TV) and he is teacher of art in some secondary schools of that area.
He started his artistic path during the elementary school, drawing comic strips and caricatures. At the artistic high school, he started working with clay and gypsum and at the Academy he worked with bronze.
But wood is his favorite matter. He prefers using hard woods with character, that give to him satisfaction from plastic point of view.
He loves wood, touching it, smelling and working it. He feels like creator, because it is the sculptor’s idea that prevails on the form of matter. The matter is at the service of the sculptor to realise his project. The sculptor manages and dominates it.
His works of art come always from a paint and they give messages to whom come close to them.
Sculpture expresses a lot of feelings. It’s like a book, where you can read about joy, love, suffering and sadness.
In his expressive research dominates the feminine figure, with elegant forms, that expresses the themes of fecundity and maternity. But the sculptor represents also folk traditions, connected with his land, historic and mythologic themes and also great tragedies, such as that one of Vajont.
Now he’s trying with new subjects, figures that keep always balance, while they do their activities. Always in precarious balance, with the risk to fall, like it would happen in the real life.
Roberto took and takes part to several Symposia and he showed in individual and collective exhibitions in Italy, Austria and Japan.
